DMSO - The Forgotten Medicine Making A Comeback
Big Pharma "forgot" about this compound for a reason...
→ An overview of an old therapeutic recently going viral for it’s healing potential:
Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO)
I first heard about DMSO about 15 years ago, around the same time I began my studies into Chlorine Dioxide. I was working at a local health food store, and one of my colleagues was very well versed on alternative, “suppressed” therapeutics. He showed me that Chlorine Dioxide (Cl02) can be used topically when mixed with DMSO acting as a carrier to draw the Cl02 into the body.
I went down to local feed store and picked up a bottle of DMSO, specifically wanting to use it with Cl02 and unknowing of all the potentials of DMSO itself. This bottle was originally made for horses, but there is a carryover between some supplements made for humans and animals. Granted, I’m not sure if the processing on this DMSO was the most pure, and being packaged in plastic and made for horses it may have had some contaminants in it - these days there are much more pure DMSO products available specifically for human use, and packaged more securely in glass containers.
I had used this DMSO a few times, but eventually it wound up in the back of my supplement cabinet for years. It may even still be back there somewhere. I had mostly forgotten about DMSO until the last 6 months when a resurgence of interest took place on social media. Alternative doctors like the Midwestern Doctor and health-focused influencers like Vigilant Fox have written articles on it, and I’ve been asked by quite a few of my own followers if I’m familiar with DMSO or where they can find a good source - so I’ve gone back down the DMSO rabbit hole, and have learned some new things along the way.

What is DMSO?
From Grok:
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a colorless, organic compound with the chemical formula (CH₃)₂SO. It’s a polar aprotic solvent, meaning it can dissolve both polar and non-polar substances, making it widely used in chemical and biological research. DMSO is derived from wood pulp as a byproduct of paper manufacturing and has unique properties, including:
Penetration Ability: DMSO can rapidly penetrate skin and other biological membranes, often carrying other substances with it, which makes it a potential drug delivery vehicle.
Therapeutic Uses: Medically, DMSO is FDA-approved for treating interstitial cystitis (a bladder condition) when used as a bladder irrigation solution. It’s also used in veterinary medicine and explored off-label for conditions like arthritis, inflammation, and pain due to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Metabolism: In the body, DMSO is metabolized into methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and other compounds, contributing to some of its effects.
DMSO is a simple compound consisting of two methyl groups and an oxygen atom bonded to sulfer, and sulfur is a critical component of several biological processes, including protein synthesis, cartilage formation, antioxidant scavenging (glutathione production), and liver detoxification. This is one reason DMSO may be so helpful in detoxification, joint support, and metabolic health. Ideally we’d be getting enough sulfur from our diets, but with most humans on the Standard America Diet these days, along with mass use of pharmaceuticals that inhibit the ability of sulfur-based compounds to do work in the body, many people are deficient. Depleted soils from over-agriculture, mono-crops, and overuse of pesticides also play a part in various mineral deficiencies in our population.
DMSO and it’s breakdown products do exist in nature, being found in small amounts in milk, coffee, clams, and the salty smell of the ocean is partly due to algae near the surface creating dimethyl sulfoxide. While it is a solvent compound used in industrial processes, it is natural and quite safe for health related usage - as long as you’re using it with responsible awareness.
History
It appears that DMSO was more widely discussed within “traditional” medicine back in the 1960s and 70s. Mainstream medicine did many studies on DMSO, high-level athletes were known to frequently use DMSO to heal from injuries and get back on the field faster, and even the governor of Indiana Otis Bowen - who later became Secretary of HHS under Ronald Reagan - was a champion of DMSO after using it on his wife’s debilitating pain with success. There were efforts to get the FDA to step up to the plate and take DMSO more seriously for medical use, but the medical establishment decided to ignore it. This was likely due to the reasons Big Pharma ignores many alternative modalities - cheap, too effective, and can’t be patented. DMSO was essentially relegated to very limited use within mainstream medicine, and became more widely known as a treatment in veterinary practice (hence why I had to go to an animal feed store to find it in 2011). Over the years, DMSO became one of those “underground supplement secrets” that self-educated, alternative health aficionados knew about and used, but it was never one of the popular or promoted supplements on the market.
How DMSO works
From Midwestern’s Doctor’s DMSO paper:
Due to its relatively small size, having both a polar and non-polar half, being able to form hydrogen bonds slightly stronger than those found between water molecules, and not releasing protons, DMSO has two remarkable properties:
•It acts as a near-universal solvent (e.g., it interacts with a vast range of biomolecules and can easily mix with any concentration of water).
•It’s able to pass through biological membranes without damaging them (something to my knowledge, nothing else can do).
These factors give DMSO a unique ability to move into areas of the body (brain, bones, joints, organs, etc.) that other supplements and compounds cannot, and do so in a safe, effective manner.
What issues can DMSO help?
DMSO has been shown to help:
- Prevent heart damage caused by mineral deficiencies and kidney damage from heavy metal exposure
- Protect tissues with limited blood supply
- Increase production of ATP in cells
- Save fingers of people with severe frostbite
- Treat a variety of burns, along with sunburns
- Protect cells from EMF exposure
- Remove excess fluid from outside the bloodstream, increase circulation, and eliminate clots
- Save neurons in people who suffer strokes
- Remove amyloid plaque from the brain, blood and organs
- Improve cognitive disorders through better brain circulation
- Reverse complications of aging (skin issues, hair loss, reduced organ function)
- Treat joint disorders (arthritis)
- Heal wounds faster and remove scar tissue (especially in areas that get low blood supply, such as joint tissue and the spine)
And more.
How to use it
DMSO can be taken orally, topically, and intravenously - although there are many things to be aware of with each mode of administration, and the taking of it overall. In my opinion, topical is the preferable method, as it is safer than oral or IV ingestion. Personally, I would only use DMSO orally or intravenously if supervised by a knowledge practitioner.
1) Being that DMSO is a sulfur containing compound, one may notice a slight garlic-type odor emanating from the skin or breath for a period after using it. Certain DMSO products are marketed as “low odor” for this reason.
2) Being that DMSO is a strong solvent, if used topically it will draw other chemicals in contact with it into the body (luckily bacteria are too large for DMSO to bring into the body). This may be helpful if using it with something wanted in the body, but one must be mindful of unwanted chemicals. Make sure the application area is very clean, hands are clean if rubbing it in (cotton balls can be used to rub or dab it on the skin, ideally organic), give it at least 30 minutes before wearing polyester or other artificial fabrics over the treated area (don’t want microplastics being drawn into the body), and wait to wear jewelry, apply sunscreen, etc. Once the DMSO has dried, it’s much less able to pull anything into the body. If cleaning the area to be treated with a chemical-laden soap, wash the soap off thoroughly.
3) Dilution may be necessary. Most DMSO products come in a 99.9% strength. Most clinical trials use DMSO often use a 50% dilution with water (make sure it’s clean and purified water), and many DMSO authors use a 60 or 70% dilution (i.e., two parts DMSO to one part water - ish). Self research is advised to find the proper dilution ratio for your preferred usage. It’s generally advised to start with a low dilution and work your way up, but some people have gone straight for the 99.9% DMSO and felt great.
4) Irritation. It’s been found that one in every few thousand people have a sensitivity to DMSO, so a small patch test is advisable before larger applications. To do this, simply clean a small patch of skin and apply a tiny amount of the product. Wait 24 hours to see if any redness or bumps occur. If not, all is well. Some may experience a warmth or tingling sensation with topical DMSO administration, this is normal. If any redness or swelling happens, wash the area immediately and discontinue use.
Were to find DMSO
As stated above, a company I often partner with called OnenessDrops is having a buy one, get one free sale that ends July 5th.
Here is the link to the DMSO listing on their website, entering code “bogojordan” will let them know to send double of whatever you order. (BOGO also applies to their chlorine dioxide kits, Mullein and Soursop extracts, and HCL digestive support)
After researching DMSO more thoroughly, I’ve been inspired to bring it into my Conscious Strength line-up, but that will take a bit of time. Until then, Oneness is a great source.
Special thanks to Midwestern Doctor for writing some awesome articles on DMSO last year, and the unnamed individual who introduced me to DMSO 15 years ago.
With RFK Jr. kicking butt as head of HHS, and platforms like Twitter and Instagram allowing more free speech on our accounts these days, hopefully the “forgotten medicines” can make a serious comeback for the common man - and we can stick it to Big Pharma once and for all.

I used a frankincense gel with DMSO for knee arthritis.. It eased the pain almost instantly and used it daily for about a month. Worked great and I'm much better now. Only problem I had was it would itch like crazy, but I'm not sure if that was the frankincense or the Dmso
About 40 years ago I used Vitamin E with DMSO on a pulled tendon on my middle finger from a horse wreck. I've had no pain or inflammation there since, and I only had to used it 3 or 4 times before I was able to flip deserving people off appropriately again.
