In the 80's there was this slogan: buy American made. When did this end and why?

Since the dawn of the interwebs, Americans have been paying to support the Chinese Communist Party through our purchases. American life should not be dependent on the services of an enemy nor should we be aiding them to build their military with our purchases. That is why Trump is being attacked.

I understand that we need to have comparable tariffs between countries in order to have fair trade, but I don’t see how making products here will solve the problem of products made in China being much cheaper than ours. They use cheap (child) labor to produce their goods, so it seems to me that they will always be able to sell them cheaper to us than our American made products. Unfortunately, most Americans are price buyers, so I think it will take a lot to get them to start paying more for American made products. We’ll have to PROVE to them that our products are higher quality (lasts longer and works better?) than the Chinese equivalent. Eventually (decades?) that may happen, but it is going to take a lot of hard work, and companies being willing to forgo higher profits until that happens. Forgoing profits means fewer jobs it would seem to me. Moving factories back here may hinder the Chinese from manufacturing as many products as they do now, but I suspect they have learned how to copy our manufacturing processes, and will take over the factories there when our companies decide to leave. This is a very complex issue, but I hope we can pull it off at least for the sake of my grand children.

China does not respect intellectual property. That alone is a reason to be keeping industry in USA. Letting foreign companies put factories in China was a massive loss of intellectual property. Plus USA consumes far too much un necessary junk imported from China. It's wasteful. It's adding to pollution.
